About the speakers

Jessi Merwyn-Jones

Jessi Merwyn-Jones

Having had her ‘voice’ taken during childhood and her will broken by the abusive relationship of her early adulthood, Jessi found her life’s road leading – through irreversible tragedy – to one of the ‘ends of the earth’. But on this road she was also ‘found’ by the God of compassion, restoring her connection with Spirit, life, and a will to be an instrument of compassion for others who’ve been downtrodden. Now she is using her voice (and presence) to be a messenger of God’s grace to those behind bars, particularly through Kairos Prison Ministry and training for Prison Chaplaincy, and to bring their stories to light.

Wayne Curran

Enduring a youth of dysfunction, crime became a lifestyle choice, followed by numerous periods of incarceration, Wayne found acceptance in the criminal gang brotherhood. A decision to attend a Kairos program, enabled seeds to be sown which, at the beginning of his last gaol term, drew him to a prison Chaplain who became his mentor and guide to an understanding of the redeeming new life to found in Christ. Now, with a job he recommenced in gaol – working once more with horses, his great passion – Wayne is keen to share his journey, and to show young men, and women, that a life focussed on Jesus is the best decision anyone can make.
