ANZAC Service at Camden Haven Anglican Church

Come and join us on Sunday at our ANZAC Service

On Sunday, 22nd of April at 8am, an ANZAC Service will be conducted at the Camden Haven Anglican Church. We have the honour of welcoming a contingent from the Royal British Legion Scotland who are in town to present their ‘stand of colours’ on ANZAC Day to the Laurieton RSL branch. Do not miss this unique experience of being part of history at our 8am service, which will commence with a piper outside the church from 7:45am.

The Royal British Legion Scotland Branch Colour or Standard is a constant symbolic and ancient reminder of the Legion’s motto, ‘Service not self’. The crosses of St George, St Andrew and St Patrick symbolise unity, chivalry and loyalty to Sovereign, community and nation. The blue indicates loyalty and fidelity and the gold signifies service, as gold is tried by fire and reminds us of all those who gave their lives for country. The senior colour is known as the Queen’s (or King’s) Colour and the junior, the Branch Colours. Two RBLS Branch Colours “Wick” and “Canisbay” are paraded. Today they are referred to as a “stand” of colours.

Colours are dedicated in a religious service before being first used or paraded and are laid-up in sacred or public buildings after service. The Caithness Merchant Navy Association requested that their own Colours be brought to Australia by RBLS to be paraded as part of the ANZAC ceremonies in Laurieton.
